New products in the KGHM ZANAM’s offer
KGHM ZANAM S.A. expands the range of its activity and launches another project, which is the construction of actuators for self-propelled mining machines in the Legnica plant. This is another step towards improving the security of supplies and being independent in terms of the production of its own components and subassemblies used in the products that it offers.
The Polkowice company, which is part of the KGHM Polska Miedź S.A. Group of Companies, is familiar with the production of actuators, because it manufactured hydraulic actuators many years ago.
“We like challenges so after several years of absence in this manufacturing segment, we have decided to manufacture actuators again, using the latest technologies and materials that proved
themselves in extremely difficult conditions. We are convinced that the experience gained during many years of mining machinery production as well as the knowledge of harsh mining conditions will allow us to develop reliable products for mines,” says Jacek Kosiński, Vice-President of the Management Board of KGHM ZANAM S.A.
The actuators use many innovative solutions related to piston rod corrosion protection, steel material durability, and sealings, which considerably extend their service life in the harshest conditions and at high operating temperatures.
Underground tests are scheduled for October this year. The first actuators manufactured by ZANAM will start working in self-propelled mining machines, where they will undergo additional technical and operational tests. The production line will make it possible to manufacture over 60% of the actuators used in mining machines, including those that are most demanding to manufacture in technological terms.
The epidemic situation emphasised the risks associated with supply chains that are too long and empirically demonstrated the benefits of direct supervision of manufacturing key production components. “We appreciate cooperation with our partners. However, taking into account economics and supply security, we will continue to analyse the possibility of mitigating logistic risks for key components used in our series products,” adds Jacek Kosiński.
