Activities related to the provision of repair and maintenance services for facilities belonging to KGHM Polska Miedź S.A have recently been one of many favourable development paths for KGHM ZANAM S.A., which starts to be as successful as expected.

In recent months, the company managed to complete a number of investment, modernisation, and repair works, which made it possible to renovate many pieces of equipment used in the Legnica Copper Smelter. Among all the works conducted, the particularly demanding one was the renovation of converter furnace no. 1, the modernisation of which fairly exceeded the standard scope.

“The renovation of converter furnace no. 1 took about one month and was performed at the turn of January and February this year. During this time, we were able to accomplish many of the assumed tasks. Some of them required great attention and skills from us. It is thanks to our employees and the support provided by the Głogów Branch and the Legnica Plant that we managed to reduce the renovation time by 2 days,” says Wojciech Czerwiński, the Head of the Repair and Maintenance Branch at the Smelter Maintenance and Repair Service Department of KGHM ZANAM S.A.

On 16 March this year, the renovation of converter furnace no. 3 was also completed by KGHM ZANAM S.A. in the Legnica Copper Smelter. As part of this task, brickwork lining in the furnace head was repaired and the nozzle area was replaced. The works were carried out 24/7 in order to ensure the optimum use of the renovation time and thus reduce downtime. In the end, the renovation time was shortened by 4 days, which is almost 15% in relation to the time provided for this task.

“All renovations are carried out during the operation of the Smelter so you need to be extra careful about the conditions there. We have to be very safety-oriented during the performance of tasks. Many tasks performed by our employees are often specialised works that require great precision and commitment. I am all the more pleased that we have people in our teams who are real professionals in the industrial furnace industry. With them, work is a great pleasure and high-quality services are guaranteed,” says Krzysztof Świtliński, Leader of the Construction Service Branch.

In the Legnica Copper Smelter, KGHM ZANAM performs many periodic repairs on an everyday basis, deals with fault removal during process-related downtime, and eliminates any kinds of failures occurring in the facilities serviced. In addition, the company has its own extensive manufacturing facilities, while the broad cooperation between all company departments ensures the optimisation of all processes: starting from repairs and ending up with the production of ready-to-use equipment, which reflects the company’s huge potential and advantages over other contractors.
